Kaisa Kuslapuu & Karl Laanekask

Kaisa Kuslapuu and Karl Laanekask are two friends whose musical collaboration began with Karl’s master’s studies in traditional music and continued in the beat of Tartu folk dance club. They’ve become a duo with a unique charge, which makes your brow rise a little: banjo and piano are not exactly the first (often not even the last) instruments that would play together or associate with Estonian folk music, but it is precisely the bottomless treasure pit of tradition that they have begun to dive into, and their harmonies (although sometimes absurd) gives them more momentum. Kaisa and Karl’s repertoire mainly includes their favourite dance tunes or other exciting archival finds, including some of their own pieces.
